I wonder

if there wasn’t a woman
deeply abject, oppressed
abused and harassed
for her hijab her niqab

I wonder
if she raised her hands
in duas so heartfelt unplanned

to show the wicked oppressors
who’s in charge, the true Possessor

I wonder
if heard were the mustadafeen cries
it shook the heavens and skies

brought down the knives
cut them all to size

doesn’t matter what the cost
don’t mess with the oppressed lot

you may see consequences
suddenly feel queasy n apprehensive

now they can rethink all in a blink
who they mocked wished to block

economies in disarray
global chaos in display

the niqab no longer banned
the mask is now in the plan

i wonder
if soon istinja, ghusl and wudhu
will be part of a hygiene plan too
