Paraphernalia
There’s so much we collect
So much we can’t do without
I need my glasses,
I need my scarf,
I need a nail clipper
A hair clip and slippers
Without a towel
Difficult to bath,
Shampoo and soap
I cannot pass
A shawl, blanket n coat
Socks n coverings
I can’t do without
And I like to be a minimalist..
At my musallah I sit
This is what I notice
The phone is there,
The cream, warm water
Makes me think
Nothing will go in my grave
Where I’ll go alone
Beyond the twilight zone
Yet paraphernalia
So essential for living
Food, water n washroom
Toilet paper n jug
Things I can’t do without
A comb, paper n pen
So frustrating to be bereft
If not packed n kept
Just notice.
What is our list
Of basic paraphernalia
How to shed some more
I should do it while I can
before it’s done for me
When I’m not mobile
nor independent, agile
The day may come when
My glasses may seem irrelevant
And I have no need for the phone
As I near the barzakh zone
